Example Of A Very Old Clay Tiled Roof Being Replaced With New Felt And 2 x 1 Treated Battens, New Code 4 Lead Valleys With New 6 x 1 Treated Valley Boards, The Fitting Of Bonding Gutter Between The Two Roofs Either Side.

New Roof In Marley Farmhouse Red. New Replacement Fascia Boards, Niagara Flo Plas Guttering,

Just Waiting For Western Power To Clip The Cables Back, This Is A Free Service, On Older Properties The Power Cables Coming Into The House Need Sheathing Before We Can Start Erecting The Scaffolding.

This New Roof Was Fitted With Breathable Felt And Treated Battens.
We Always Fit Dry Verge To Pine Ends Which Is A Lot Neater Than Cement Verges Which In Time Crack And Eventually Fall Out.

All New Roofs Are Subject To Building Regulations, Ask Your Local Authorities Building Regulations Department For Help And Advice, They Will Charge You A Fee To Send Out Their Building Inspector To Check That The Work Is Carried Out To Their Specification,  As You Can See In This Photograph, We Have Fitted A Bonding Gutter Between The Two Properties To Form A Perfect Watertight Seal.

On This Back Extension We Are Creating An Overhang By Fitting Two 4 x 2 Treated End Rafters  On The Pine End To Enable Us To Extend The Felt And Battens Into The New Continuous R Type Dry Verge, We Then Cut All The Tiles Back Into The Dry Verge To Form A Perfect Fit Which Is Completely Waterproof
With All New Valleys We Fit 6 x 1 Treated Valley Boards, Felt Over The Boards With Breathable Felt, Then We Lay The Code 4 Lead In Sections For Expansion And Contraction To Stop The Lead From Tearing, We Then Cut All The Tiles Back Into The New Valley

This Wall Plate Was Well Past Its Sell By Date, We Change Wall Plates Everyday For Either 8 x 2 Treated, Or 6 x 2 Treated, If Any Rafters Show Any Signs Of Woodworm Or Wet Rot We Will Always Advise The Customer, All These Can Be Easily Changed When The Roof Comes Off.
As You Can See In This Photograph When The Old Clay Roof Was Removed It Didn't Have Any Under felt, Most Of The Old Timbers Were Rotten And Had To Be Replaced With New Treated Timber

Rotten Wall Plate Discovered On This Old Terraced House Was No Surprise, When These Properties Were Built They Didn't Fit Any Under Felt.

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog post about the very old clay-tiled roof. It's fascinating to see the history and craftsmanship behind these roofs. It's also a great reminder of the importance of proper maintenance, especially in areas like the fascia. Ensuring regular Fascia Repair is crucial for preserving the integrity of the roof and the overall structure. Thanks for sharing this insightful piece!
